It’s not easy to bring up a kid. Recently, Marco was having fever for past 2 weeks. In the past 2 weeks, there’s always questions about how often can we give the medicine: paracetamol and ibuprofen (and the variants) syrup.

The few points I took from fever:

  1. Instant thermometer is the most important item.
  2. If the fever is below 38.5 C, give paracetamol. If it’s higher than 38.5 C, give ibuprofen.
  3. Paracetamol has interval of 4-6 hours between intake. Ibuprofen has interval of 6-8 hours between intake.
  4. Please note on the maximum number of times per day.
  5. The time interval between the medicine There’s time interval between paracetamol and ibuprofen. However, the time interval is only for the same medicine. For example: if you have given paracetamol at 1 pm, you can only give the next paracetamol at 5 pm the earliest. However, if the fever is still high at 2 pm, you can give him ibuprofen. But you can only give the next ibuprofen at 8 pm (and paracetamol at 5 pm).
  6. Do not sponge him with ice or cold water as this will screw up his internal body temperature. Use lukewarm water, or tap water with abit of warm water.
  7. The fever patch for the forehead is so small, I doubt it’s actually useful to reduce the fever.
  8. Keep track of the temperature with the chart if possible.

And finally, if the fever never really subsides after more than 1 week, insist on urine or blood check for the baby. High chance there’s infection going-on and antibiotics is needed.
